Oh, yeah!

I have a blog. I forgot. :) In the end-of-the-school-year insanity that inevitably sneaks up and jumps upon us, I neglected to update you on the happenings in our little corner of the world.

Maybe, just maybe (but I don't make any promises), I will take some time over the next couple of days to reflect on the events of the last couple of months and fill you in on what's been going on. Hopefully that will happen.

In the meantime, since I only have about 20 minutes, I thought I'd keep it short. This week has been the first week of SUMMER VACATION for us, and yes, it truly feels like summer. It's the kind of weather where you go outside and instantly start sweating, whether you're in the shade or the sunshine. Actually, getting too close to a window in an air-conditioned room can also result in sweating. Possibly too much information, but for those of you who are dreaming of consistently warm weather - just think about that for a while and maybe it will make you feel warmer!

Now that I've rubbed that in a little bit - what have we been up to on our week of vacation? Well, here's the scoop. This week is squished in between two other rather busy weeks - the end of the school year (which for me entailed helping the other three high school teachers, who are all new, figure out what the end of the school year procedures look like) and the start of a different type of school. Next week, I start another set of intensive master's classes (yay!) and Michael is going to be subbing for our friend Steve, teaching summer school for grades seven through eleven. Woohoo! I think it will be an interesting two weeks from there on out.

Fortunately, after the end of next week, we get to celebrate the Songkran holiday (i.e. the gigantic nation-wide water fight) with the rest of Thailand! I have classes for two of the days of the holiday, but that leaves me with at least one day to go out on the street and throw water at strangers with some of our friends who are still around.

So, that's what's coming. Now for what's been happening. This week Michael and I have been busy painting our apartment. It was mostly out of boredom, really, but after finishing one room, I decided that I liked having color on the walls so much that I took it upon myself to paint another room today! Previously, all walls in our apartment were a bluish-white color. We painted some accent walls in the main room (grayish), and the other room I started today is bright green. The pictures below give some idea of what it looks like (but pictures never really do justice to the real thing, ya know?):

No, those stairs don't go anywhere. This room actually used to be open (like a patio with a beautiful view of the building 10 feet away from us), but we had windows put in last July. So now it's clean and usable for...uh, something. We haven't figured out what yet. Currently it's where our mop and broom chill out.

The gray is actually a little darker than what it looks like in the photo - it made a huge difference in making this awkward corner of our apartment (which it too small to fit our couch) look less awkward.

So those are our projects for the week! They've proven to be wonderfully helpful in assisting me in my procrastination techniques. I still have a couple of assignments I need to finish before my classes start next Tuesday...but that's what Monday is for, right?

Anyway, there's a quick update! More to come hopefully in the near future! For now, though, we're going with some friends to scope out an all-you-can-eat wings place somewhere in the city...yum!
