And now for something completely different

I have a couple of stories that I think are worth retelling for your entertainment...

First of all, I am proud to say that Michael gave his first detention this week. Haha. I maybe shouldn't be proud of it, but I remember how upset I was the first time I gave one out, and it was one of those moments that helped me gain more of a true teacher mentality. I hope that it's the same for him. Now, the question is...will this particular student actually bring back the detention slip with a parent signature??

Secondly, I found out this week that many of the 9th graders are scared of me. Yes. This particular piece of information has kept me laughing on and off all weekend! 9th grade is still middle school here, so I haven't taught any of these kids yet; I officially have a reputation that I never thought I would have! The middle school English teacher found this out and told me, and he said he's going to "milk it for all it's worth" and tell all sorts of stories about how strict and mean I am (which, of course, will only be partially true, at best). I have no idea where this came from, but I guess that means they'll come walking into class next year shaking in their socks!

Things continue to go well here. The next couple of months will be pretty intense as we are at the beginning of the end of the school year. I'm quite certain that I, at least, will slowly become a hermit as my kids turn in all of their papers and projects before the school year ends. But, there are things to look forward to as well. The high school will be taking a trip to Hua Hin (a beach) at the end of February - the 12th grade is currently in the midst of planning and organizing the whole thing.

The weather here has been absolutely delightful lately - usually the winter lasts a very short time (a month at most), but we've had plenty of cool weather in the low-mid 70*F range lately! I'm really not trying to rub it in..."cool" weather here really IS news worthy!

That's about all, I guess - have a blessed week at home or wherever you are!

  1. Scared? Of you? That is humorous. We had a teacher like that at my middle/high school. He was the 8th grade science teacher when I was in 7th grade, and we could hear him through the walls, and boy were we scared.

When we got to 8th grade, he moved on to high school, so we were left with the torture of waiting another year. He turned out to be probably the best teacher the school had.

Sounds just like you, minus the science part. :)
